FORWARD OBSERVATIONS Oh Lord... another event has come and gone. I was very pleased to see old freinds and meet several new ones.
It seems we have more tweaking to do on the console games and get MORE action on Halo 3 and CoD4, but Rock Star certainly kept the players in th main hall very well entertained. I never had so much fun playing WH40K with background tunes like those. ROCK ON! Call of Cthulhu was a scream with no survivors, only players who wet themselves. All in all, a fun time was had by all. If you've got comments or feedback, please let us know so we can make your next visit even shinier!
Our next event, our seventh main convention is slated for Sept 12-14 at the Chinese Commerce Center again (YAY) and YES I PROMISE TO MAKE MUCH MORE CHILI (Apologies to the ladies and other chili fans who found out later that the whole stock of it went by 1 PM! My bad!) In addition, we are working on having LIVE YAK SHAVING for your amusement pleasure as well. We'll keep you posted. (Hey, I had to add SOMETHING in here for now!)
If you are interested and want to run games, or become an active and commited volunteer of Impossible Realities Inc., or are interested in posting your company information as a sponsor, please contact Dana at dana at impossible-realities.net . We'll get it posted ASAP. If you are interested in hosting games at our events, please contact Donna at donna at impossible-realities.net.
Classic Toys Get Contemporary Revamp

Classic toys get contemporary revamp at event touting summer's hot play items Published Wednesday May 14th, 2008 Lauren La Rose, THE CANADIAN PRESS
TORONTO - The worlds of classic and contemporary came together at the rollout of toys touted as some of the hottest for the summer. Familiar playthings injected with a modern-day twist were among the items showcased at the "Hot Toys of Summer" event Tuesday held by the Canadian Toy Association.
Toronto amusement park Ontraio Place became a makeshift personal playground for the toddler to tween set who ambled around trying out the latest toys. A popular item particularly among boys on hand was Swingball, an innovation on the classic tethered ball familiar to many school playgrounds, which allows children to use a racket to whack the ball around the pole in place of their hands. Several girls were drawn to arts and crafts including a sidewalk chalk kit that allows budding Picassos to make images appear 3-D on the pavement.
Several young boys chased around firing an updated version of the Super Soaker which allows the user to attach a bottle as big as two litres to the blaster in place of filling up with a hose, while modern-day Robin Hoods and Maid Marions took aim with Marshmallow Fun Bow & Mallow which allows them to shoot the sugary confection up to nine metres into the air.
Canadian Toy Association spokesman Harold Chizick said many of the toys feature the same play pattern as in the past with an emphasis on innovation and encouraging physical activity. "In the summertime, after the kids in Canada have been hibernating all winter, they just want to get outside, stretch, run around and have fun," he said. "What you're seeing here is a great variety of toys that promote activity, creativity and imagination - everything from ride-on toys to classic sand toys to building blocks."
Chizick said unlike the toys unveiled before the holiday season, there's less of an emphasis on high-tech, gadget gear with summer products. Traditional toys could be facing mounting competition from the red-hot gaming industry if the recent blockbuster sales of "Grand Theft Auto IV" are any indication.
Chizick maintains the toys showcased mainly target the 12 and under crowd, while many video games are geared to those aged 14 and older. In addition, many consumers may be specifically looking for outdoor products to entertain their family in the backyard, at the cottage or on vacation in the summer. "You see lots of kids running around and playing with our toys. These are kids that are fully engaged in these products," he said. "Although there's all those great electronics and high-tech toys that you're talking about being released in the last couple of weeks, it really doesn't affect the target audience we're catering to here."

Attention fellow gamers, dice collectors, friends, and loyal customers!
For those of you who have orders pending or processing at this time, we apologize for the long delay in filling your orders. We have had several personal challenges recently which have prevented us from working more than part-time at AdvancingHordes.com.
Also, the response to our "Closing Soon" announcement has been nothing short of astounding. We are as busy with orders as we usually are right before Christmas... multiplied by about 4 !
We are very sorry for the long delays, but "good things come to those who wait", as they say, and rest assured we are doing our best to get orders packed and mailed out as fast as we can.
AdvancingHordes.com is clearing out our stock, in preparation for closing down the online business. We will be closing our virtual doors on or before May 30 2008.
Lawrence has another job now, and Brigid is planning on going back to University, so we've decided to phase Advancing Hordes Dice and Miniatures out of our lives for the foreseeable future. We've been running this business since 2003, and we've had a great time doing it, but we're both ready for a change.
We'll be keeping our domain name, and we might in future haul some stock to the odd gaming convention. We reserve the right to one day re-open the Advancing Hordes Dice & Miniatures online store, but don't count on it!!
Thanks again for your patience, and for being such a great group of customers!
Sincerely, Lawrence Maynard and Brigid Skelton AHDM.net

The game has been extensively tested and all who have seen it are excited and looking forward to its release. We have already arranged for a French partner and are working on similar arrangements with German and Dutch partners. We will release more information on this exciting new game in the near future.
Stone Age Each age has its special challenges. The stone age was shaped by the emergence of agriculture, the processing of useful resources, and by the building of simple huts. Trade begins and grows and civilization takes root and spreads. In addition, traditional abilities like skillful hunting are in demand, in order to be able to nourish the growing population. The goal of the players is to master all these challenges. There are many ways to do so, so everyone can work to achieve his goal in his own way. Find your own way and learn at the end whether it was the best way. Rio361; $45.95; 2-4 players aged 10+; 90 minutes, author: Michael Tummelhofer.
Hanging Gardens The players are landscape architects who are to create designs for the hanging gardens on behalf of the king. During the game, the players acquire building cards, which they place in their play areas in order to create the most beautiful garden. When a player creates a group, he receives point tiles, which he places in his play area. At game end, the player who has collected the best combinations of point tiles, is names the King’s Architect and also wins the game! Rio362; $34.95; 2-4 players aged 8+; 45 minutes, author: Din Li.
Change Horses Do you have trouble winning at racing games? Well, this game is for the losers out there. Yes, to "win" the game, you have to pick the horse, which comes in last. Sounds simple, but, of course, the other players are trying to lose as well. $49.95; RIO365; 2-4 players; aged 10 +; length: 60 minutes; author: Bruce Whitehill.
Aquaretto Each player is the owner of a water zoo. Each player tries to lure as many visitors as possible into his water zoo and earns points for the visitors that visit his zoo. To create a zoo that people want to visit, a player must collect animals. When a player’s water zoo is successful, he may want to expand it. When a player’s animal basins are full, he must place additional animals into his depot, which loses him points at game end. When a player makes skillful use of his coworkers, he can gain additional points. The player with most points wins. The game may be played as both a stand-alone game and as an expansion to Zooloretto! $49.95; RIO360; 2 - 5 players, aged 10+; length: 45 minutes; author: Michael Schacht.
Thurn & Taxis: all roads lead to Rome This 2nd expansion for Thurn & Taxis is actually two in one! Play them separately or together with Thurn & Taxis! In Audience, each player sends 5 clergyman to attend an audience with the Pope in Rome. The players endeavor to make certain the carriages with the clergyman arrive, but not too early! A player who arranges for his cardinal to arrive at just the right time will score more points than the player who manages the same with a simple priest. In Offices of Honor, the players try to use the office holders as evenly as possible, in order to receive different office tiles. The more different tiles a player can return at one time, the greater benefits he receives. $29.95; RIO356; 2 - 4 players, aged 10+; length: 60 minutes; authors: Karen and Andreas Seyfarth.
